Description
Estate planning is about more than transferring assets. It can help protect you during your lifetime, provide direction if you become incapacitated, and communicate how you want the people, pets, property, and causes you care about to be supported.
During this educational program, we will discuss:
· The four foundational documents many estate plans include: a will, financial power of attorney, health care power of attorney, and health care directive.
· How wills, beneficiary designations, joint ownership, and properly funded trusts may affect the transfer of assets and the probate process
· Planning for incapacity, late-life needs, and the potential impact of long-term care costs
· Common trust and legacy-planning concepts, including revocable living trusts, credit shelter trusts, life insurance trusts, and charitable giving strategies
· Federal estate tax concepts and state-specific considerations that may be relevant to Oregon and Washington residents.
Whether you are creating your first estate plan or reviewing an existing one, this session will help you identify important questions, understand common planning tools, and prepare for conversations with your attorney, tax professional, and financial professional.
